The Windsor Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police employs more than 50 people. Largely known as an automotive manufacturing center, the City of Windsor sits on the banks of the Detroit River across from Detroit, Michigan. In the heart of the city, the western end of Highway 401, one of Canada’s busiest highways, splits into the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. The two crossings see thousands of passengers and transport vehicles move between Canada and the U.S. each day, making it the busiest border crossing in North America.
The men and women of the Windsor Detachment are responsible for federal enforcement in Windsor, Essex County and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The mandate of Windsor Detachment is the enforcement of federal statutes and the Criminal Code. The enforcement units are all focused on the RCMP priorities of disrupting organized crime and terrorist activities and are divided as follows:
Members of Windsor Detachment actively work in partnership with other law enforcement and government agencies in the area. Some of these partners include: Ontario Provincial Police, Windsor Police Service, LaSalle Police Service, Amherstburg Police Service, Chatham-Kent Police Service, Revenue Canada, Ontario Ministry of Revenue, Industry Canada, Canadian Coast Guard, Canada Border Services Agency and American federal and municipal agencies.
The Windsor Detachment service area of the Detroit River, St-Clair Lake and Lake Erie includes the border between Canada and the United States. This proximity means that border integrity is a major component of the duties that members are engaged in.
The members of Windsor Detachment participate in numerous community activities and events, including Remembrance Day, the Racing Against Drugs Crime Prevention Program, attendance at Citizenship Court and participate with Windsor Police Service in the VIP (Values, influence and peers) Program at local schools.
The Detachment also promotes crime prevention through media releases and educational information sessions for citizens.
In addition to serving the community as coaches and volunteers, members are also proud to support Special Olympics programs by running in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, or by helping special needs athletes compete in various sporting activities.
