Criminal Intelligence

The RCMP is committed to fighting organized crime nationally, regionally and locally. Strategic Intelligence is one of the main tools in our initiatives against such criminals in Nova Scotia, Canada and around the World.

The Criminal Intelligence Program provides criminal information/intelligence to the RCMP for the detection and prevention of crime that is serious, organized or threatens Canada's national security.

Division Criminal Analysis Section (DCAS)

DCAS is the central component for all RCMP criminal analysis/intelligence
personnel in the division. Its main function is to provide analysis and maintain an information/intelligence database for Nova Scotia. DCAS also generates crime trend reports, collates information stored in the National Criminal Data Bank and suggests points to focus on or avenues of investigation previously unexplored.

Criminal Intelligence Service Nova Scotia (CISNS)

CISNS is the network through which the criminal intelligence units of major law enforcement agencies come together for the common purpose of fighting the spread of organized crime in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. While promoting inter-agency cooperation, CISNS is able to assist other law enforcement agencies by sharing intelligence information.

National Security Intelligence Section (NSIS)

The National Security Investigations (NSIS) component of the Criminal Intelligence Program conducts anti-terrorism investigations and provides some of the specialized expertise required to carry out the RCMP security-related responsibilities. These responsibilities include any threat to the security of Canada, any offence where the victim is an internationally protected person, the unlawful release of sensitive or classified information dealing with national security, and related terrorist activities as defined in the anti-terrorism provisions in the Criminal Code of Canada. NSIS is also responsible for providing intelligence on the airport movement of criminal elements to the RCMP and other accrediated law enforcement agencies.
