Drug use and abuse in sports is as relevant an issue to high school students as it is to high-profile professional athletes. The use of performance-enhancing drugs goes beyond elite athletes to involve a significant number of young people who are concerned with their performance and appearance.
The Drugs and Sport program is designed to engage youth, particularly high school students, by offering accurate information about current issues, and the legal and health consequences of drug abuse in sport. An accompanying booklet provides additional information outlining the law, widely-abused sport-related drugs, how to recognize symptoms, the importance of prevention, and a list of provincial resource agencies.
