The Spirit of Unity developed as the result of a partnership between the Black Cultural Society of Nova Scotia and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The Black Cultural Society wished to honour black RCMP members who were born in Nova Scotia as well as those presently serving in the province. Since its inception in 1995 under the name “Operation Show & Tell”, the program has continued to evolve. In 2002 the event became known as the “Spirit of Unity" and was attended by approximately 1400 Nova Scotians over a 3-day period.
