RCMP make significant drug seizure in Truro, Truro, N.S.

RCMP have seized a significant amount of cocaine and prescription drugs in Truro.

Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 5:30 p.m., members of the RCMP Northeast Nova Drug Section seized approximately 825 grams of cocaine and approximately 400 oxycodone prescription pills at the Acadia Lines bus terminal in Truro. A 43-year-old male from Cambridge, Ontario, was arrested without incident. The investigation is continuing.

Sylvain Joseph Matte, 43-years-old, of Cambridge, Ontario, is facing charges of Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Oxycodone for the Purpose of Trafficking. He will appear in Truro Provincial Court on February 3rd, 2012.

'We're an intelligence-led organization,' said Sgt. Gary White of the RCMP Federal Drug Section. 'In this case, we received information and acted accordingly, and from a public safety perspective, we're very pleased with the outcome as we feel a seizure of this size will significantly disrupt the street-level drug trade.'

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting TIP202 + your message to 'CRIMES' (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca. Calls to Crime Stoppers are not taped or traced and if police make an arrest and lay charges based on a tip, callers qualify for a cash reward from $50 - $2000.
