RCMP charge male with Assaulting a Police Officer, Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) , N.S.

2012/2/16

RCMP have charged a male from East Preston with Assaulting a Police Officer.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. on February 15, 2012, a patrol officer attended a home in East Preston to speak to a suspect involved in a mischief complaint. While at the home, the male suspect grabbed a knife and lunged toward the officer, ignoring repeated commands to drop the knife and stop his aggressive approach.

The RCMP officer deployed the conductive energy weapon and the suspect was taken into custody without injury to any of the police officers on scene or any members of the public. The knife was seized and the male was taken to hospital where it was deemed he was not injured.

An 87-year-old male will be appearing in Dartmouth Provincial Court on March 28, 2012 to answer to the charges of Assault Police Officer and Assault with a Weapon.
