Our Detachment

RCMP Barrington Detachment is currently run by Detachment Commander Sergeant MJ DeLuco.  Sgt. DeLuco has been with the RCMP for 24 years, serving in Digby, Yarmouth, Windsor, Nunavut and the Nova Scotia RCMP Professional Standards Unit.  Sgt. DeLuco was posted to Barrington in early 2012 and works with 6 members to police the Barrington area.

The Barrington RCMP Detachment has specialized service located in Yarmouth, including Police Dog Services, Forensic Identification Services, Federal Drug Section and the Major Crime Unit.

Our Community

The Barrington RCMP serves the Municipality of Barrington and the Town of Clark’s Harbour. This area includes Baccaro Point which is the southernmost point on the Nova Scotia mainland, though a couple of nearby islands, like Cape Sable Island, lie farther south. The area includes some of the world’s richest lobster fishing grounds and the fishing industry is the main source of revenue and employment.

Our Priorities

RCMP Barrington Detachment works in collaboration with the local police advisory board to ensure the needs of the community are met. The RCMP Barrington Detachment priorities for 2011/2012 include:

  • Road Safety: Impaired driving, and other Motor Vehicle Act offences
  • Crime Reduction: Community Sentence Order and Court Imposed Release checks
  • Police / Community Relations: Police visibility in communities
  • Vulnerable Sector: Youth & seniors - Internet safety & seniors safety
Community Contributions

Members of the Barrington Detachment participate in community events including an annual charity ball tournament and hockey game, Christmas Index Fund, and Remembrance Day services. Please contact the Detachment if you require RCMP participation in an upcoming event in your community.
