The "B" Division Emergency Response Team (ERT) is a specialized tactical weapons team. It is made up of twelve regular members stationed throughout the eastern part of Newfoundland and Labrador. All positions on the Team are part time, volunteer jobs. The members on the Team also have full time positions within the Province. The skill set identified and desired for ERT members centre around being a solid police officer. Each ERT member must be a team player with superior physical conditioning and
an above average aptitude for shooting. ERT mainly responds to requests for its assistance from all RCMP Districts across the province. In addition, ERT assists other federal departments that require their particular skills. They have assisted the Department of Fisheries and the Canadian Coast Guard with Marine Intervention skills where they are necessary for enforcement. ERT responds to varied calls over the span of a year. Typical calls involve armed and barricaded persons, hostage takings, high risk take downs that may involve drug operations or armed and dangerous persons. RCMP members who serve on the Emergency Response Team are dedicated professionals who take pride in their jobs.
