The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Klondike raised 67,228.24 dollars, St. John's, N.L.

2012/4/18

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Klondike raised $67,228.24.

The total will be divided in two and cheques for $33,614.12 will be presented to VOCM Cares in support of Rainbow Riders and the SPCA.

The cheque presentation will take pace at 4 PM on Thursday April 19 at RCMP Headquarters, 100 White Hills Road, St. John's.

VOCM Cares in support of Rainbow Riders is a therapeutic riding program. It is a proven method of increasing the physical, mental, emotional and developmental capabilities for individuals with disabilities, functional limitations or medical issues. This program offers a healing interaction between horses, riders and the people who help them. Rainbow Riders will use the Klondike Night funds to update their facility to accommodate the special needs of children who use the therapeutic riding program.

The SPCA Newfoundland and Labrador has nine branches across the province. The SPCA s mission is to relieve the suffering of animals by educating people to treat them with the love and respect they deserve. Through education they promote responsible pet ownership and encourage spaying and neutering. Close to four thousand animals across the province come through the doors of the SPCAs shelters every year; each one needing love and attention, and the hope of finding a forever home. The funds from the RCMP Klondike Night will be used for the spay and neuter program to help control the pet overpopulation throughout the province.

The annual RCMP Klondike Night was held Friday, March 2nd at RCMP Headquarters, 100 White Hills Road, St. John's.

Klondike Night is supported by VOCM Cares. Details about the event can be found on the web site at www.rcmp.ca/nl or on the RCMPs Facebook or Twitter sites at RCMPNL.
