The RCMP “B” Division Headquarters building is located at 100 East White Hills Road, St. John’s. It has a panoramic view of the city of St. John’s, Signal Hill (the site of the first wireless signal), Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America) and the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. It was completed on March 31, 1994 and was officially opened on June 10, 1994.
This building provides centralized accommodations for “B” Division Headquarters. The total area of the building is 13, 427 square metres. Construction costs were approximately $24 million.
The building is four stories high and has a basement parking garage for 72 operational vehicles and a manually operated car wash. It is a multi purpose building not just an office building. Some of its features include executive offices, training classrooms, cafeteria and kitchen, storage/ shipping, six-position revolver shooting range, security engineering workshop, Operational Communication Centre, artisan and radio workshops, Emergency Response Team accommodations, Tactical Troop accommodations, NCO Combined Messes, 30 barracks units, SPOT room (gym) and exercising facilities.
The three parking areas to the rear of the building are terraced into the hill,
connected by covered walkways for use during inclement weather. Visitors and RCMP personal are all required to wear an identification badge when visiting the building. All visitors will be required to leave a photo ID with the Commissionaires while they are in the building. These badges are colour coded to allow or forbid entrance to restricted areas and must be returned before leaving the building.
