Media Advisory: RCMP to commemorate the 35th anniversary of female Mounties

REGINA, SK, September 14, 2009 - The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are pleased to invite the media to commemorate the 35th anniversary of female uniformed police officers in the Force.

On September 16, 1974, 32 women made Canadian history when they commenced training at the RCMP Academy (“Depot” Division) in Regina, Saskatchewan, as the country’s first female troop of Mounties, Troop 17. The hiring of police women in Canada has not only had a significant positive impact on the RCMP and other police forces, but also contributed to the changing role of women in the workplace. On September 16, 2009, the RCMP will celebrate 35 years of female uniformed members in the Force.

Where and when: Two events will be held in Regina on September 16 to commemorate the special anniversary.

Wednesday, September 16
