OTTAWA – August 24, 2009 —The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is pleased to advise that Sergeant Brian Kelly returned to Ottawa on Saturday, August 22. He is currently in stable condition and continues to receive medical care in hospital.
The RCMP member was hurt in an explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan on Saturday, August 15 that injured 91 people and claimed the life of seven. Prior to returning to Canada, he received medical attention both in Kabul and in Germany.
Sgt. Kelly would like to express his sincere gratitude for all the support emails and calls he has received from friends and Canadians across the country over the past week.
A 29-year veteran of the RCMP, Sgt. Kelly was deployed on a nine-month mission to Afghanistan through the RCMP's International Peace Operations Branch.
