Canada is set to provide police officers nationwide with technology to gain immediate access to INTERPOL’s vast international criminal database.
RCMP Commissioner William Elliott will unveil in detail the new initiative to media, joined by the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Federal Minister of Public Safety, Ronald K. Noble, INTERPOL’s Secretary General and Julian Fantino, Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner and Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Association of Chief of Police.
The RCMP-INTERPOL initiative will also complement border security and contribute to protective policing initiatives surrounding major international events like the Vancouver 2010 Olympics Games in February and the G8 in June next year.
An opportunity for journalists to ask questions following the announcements will be available.
