Kimmirut barricade update

At this hour, RCMP officers remain at the scene where an armed male suspect has barricaded himself in a Kimmirut home.
The incident began on Tuesday morning, when the Kimmirut RCMP Detachment received a report of a gunshot fired at a residence. There have been a number of exchanges between the suspect and police over the course of the past three days.
Currently, the Emergency Response Teams from Iqualuit and Ottawa remain at the scene in Kimmirut. The residence occupied by the suspect has been contained. At this time, a second person is in the residence with the suspect.
In the interest of public safety and the security of all involved, the residents in the immediate area surrounding the home have been evacuated, and the school remains closed. The primary objective of the RCMP is to seek a peaceful resolution to this situation.
RCMP members in Kimmirut work very closely with the people of this small community. We would like to thank them at this time for their ongoing cooperation, patience and assistance in this matter.
