National Training
- The Canadian Internet Child Exploitation (CAN-ICE) pilot course developed by the NCECC (through an Ontario Provincial Police secondment to the Centre) was offered to 20 participants from across Canada and one Australian in March 2005. Future CAN-ICE courses will be offered in the Fall of 2005.
- The second annual national workshop for investigators was held in April with 75 participants representing 10 provinces and one territory, 21 police agencies, two US departments, one Interpol representative, three Canada Border Services Agency representatives, and three Crown Prosecutors.
Research and Development
- The Internet Based Child Sexual Exploitation Environmental Scan has been completed. The document can be obtained by sending a request to ncecc123@bellnet.ca.
- The research and development division has begun preparing fact sheets for law enforcement, educators, parents, children, and youth that explore various areas of online sexual exploitation including how technology can be used to victimize children.
Strategic Partnerships
- The NCECC is committed to working with its law enforcement partners across Canada and internationally, and with government, industry, not-for-profit organizations and Internet Service Providers to protect children from online sexual exploitation.
- Some of the NCECC partners include Industry Canada , Cybertip.ca, Interpol, FBI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Virtual Global Taskforce, and the Canadian Coalition Against Internet Child Exploitation.
Providing Operational Support to Investigators
- The NCECC functions as the point of contact for investigations related to the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet in Canada .
- The NCECC is the main portal for all matters related to the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet that are destined for international agencies, as well as investigations and requests originating from foreign agencies that are destined for domestic partners.
- The NCECC validates international requests and prepares and disseminates comprehensive investigative packages to the proper jurisdiction within Canada .
- Relationships and collaborations with domestic and international partners have been established to facilitate and support on-going investigations and to provide a means of expediting sensitive and urgent requests for the legal transmission of investigative material.
- The NCECC helps to coordinate investigations in Canada and abroad by establishing a network between law enforcement agencies across the country and the world and acting as the hub for the network
- NCECC investigators and intelligence analysts collect intelligence and help support investigations conducted by law enforcement partners across the country.
- The NCECC can assist law enforcement officers with legislation, treaties, extradition orders and statistics.
- The NCECC works with other law enforcement agencies, NGO and the private sector to coordinate efforts in combating the sexual exploitation of children on the Internet.
