Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU)

alert
Explosives, homemade or otherwise, should never be touched by anyone other than a trained professional

J Division’s Explosive Disposal Unit prioritizes prevention through education by offering information sessions to the police and the public on how to recognize the dangers of commercial and homemade explosives.

The internet, although a rich source of information, unfortunately features numerous sites on the production of homemade explosives and on the manufacture of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).  Such sites generally fail to mention the number of people who have been seriously injured, maimed or killed while attempting to build these devices.

Every year in New Brunswick, police are finding more and more homemade explosives created by curious youth and adults after they have viewed recipes online.

These devices are being used in many ways, including as a means of personal entertainment, for vandalism, destruction of property and in some cases, the intentional infliction of injury.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of illegal explosives, knowledge of the manufacturing of IEDs, or any suspicious activity relating to explosives should immediately contact local police or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
