2010/1/25
This is a statement which was read by the Family of Sgt. Gallagher to members of the media on January 25, 2010 at the repatriation ceremony held in Moncton.
A week or so ago I was asked by a reporter to describe Mark, and I immediately said he was "kindness personified."
Over the past week, we have heard story after story about that kindness from people, either directly or indirectly, about how Mark touched their lives. The hundreds of people who have signed condolence books either in person or online are truly appreciated. It may be a little while before we are able to read them but we look forward to the day that we can sit down as a family, not just myself and Heather and Shane, but Mark’s brothers and sisters and extended family, and read all the wonderful things people remember about Mark.. We know there are many personal stories that we may have never even heard about, about how Mark had an impact on people’s lives in a positive and long lasting way. Those are stories, along with our memories of Mark, which we will always cherish.
Thank you to everyone for your kindness and support. Mark, our hero, is back home in New Brunswick.
Lisa, Heather & Shane Gallagher
