Statement from Family of Sgt. Mark Gallagher

This is a statement which was read by the Family of Sgt. Gallagher to members of the media on January 15, 2010

Thank you all for coming.

I first want to thank the media for the respect and support you have shown to our family over the past several days. Mark knew many of you not just professionally but personally and I know he would appreciate the manner in which you have handled this.

The outpouring of support we have received and continue to receive is overwhelming and speaks to the character of Mark. That support has come from people who knew him well, casual acquaintances and complete strangers. Mark touched the hearts of everyone he met.

To his friends in the RCMP, thank you for not just the support you are giving our family now but the support you gave Mark during his career. Mark loved being a police officer and loved helping people. That’s what took Mark to Haiti in the first place, his desire to help others.

We are going to be spending the next several days as a family, planning on how we will celebrate Mark’s life. Those details will be provided to you through the RCMP.
