2010/1/15
Ten individuals appeared in Provincial Court in Tracadie-Sheila on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 to face various charges related to incidents that occurred on August 15, 2009 in the area of Leech. A group of police officers infiltrated the impromptu festivities in the area, where people were taking part in "smoke shows". These are events where drivers gather and do burnouts by creating smoke with the rubber on the tires of their vehicles.
Ten people are facing a total of 35 charges under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Off-Road Vehicle Act. The main offences are related to making unnecessary noise with the tires of a vehicle and driving without due care and attention
The RCMP would like to remind the public that this type of activity is often dangerous and causes damage to the roads in our area. This damage can lead to accidents and requires the province to spend significant amounts in road repairs.
