Explosives discovered amongst garbage, Berry Mills, N.B.

On February 3, 2010 the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit was called to the Westmorland-Albert Solid Waste Corporation site on Berry Mills Road in Moncton were a small quantity of explosives were found.

Employees at the site were sorting through dry waste when they discovered a container with explosives. The employees reacted properly by isolating the package and contacting the RCMP.

Upon close examination, the Explosives Disposal Unit discovered 3 small cartridges of high explosives. The substance was properly removed by the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit and will be disposed of.

“ In this case, these explosives could have harmed an innocent person because they were discarded carelessly. We are lucky that employees discovered them and reacted properly by calling us, ” explains Cst. Brian Barnes of the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit..

The RCMP is reminding people that it is illegal to possess explosives or detonators without a valid permit. If anyone has these products or discovers them they must contact the RCMP or their local police detachment for experts to dispose of them safely.
