Search warrant leads to seizure of illegal cigarettes, Grand Falls, N.B.

On January 29th, 2010 members of the J Division Customs and Excise Unit along with members of the Grand Falls Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence on Park Street in Grand Falls, N.B.

A 44-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were arrested for being in possession of 10, 200 illegal cigarettes and for unsafe storage of a firearm.

The matter is still under investigation and both people are scheduled to appear in Grand Falls Provincial Court at 9:30 am on April 20th, 2010 to face related charges.

J Division RCMP seized nearly 375, 000 illegal cigarettes in New Brunswick in January 2010. The traffic in contraband tobacco is harmful to our communities, and the RCMP urges anyone with information about the sale or purchase of illegal tobacco to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
