Crime Stoppers and the RCMP Coordinated Marihuana Enforcement Team are asking the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activity relating to outdoor marihuana grow operations.
Marihuana growers plant marihuana on their own property, but they also often use Crown land in an attempt to avoid prosecution. Marihuana plants are usually grown in clumps in large areas and are sometimes surrounded by chicken wire to prevent damage from animals. Other vegetation is often used to camouflage the marihuana plants and a water supply is usually nearby. To get to and from the plants, growers will often use ATV's and walking trails. Unsuspecting persons have been known to locate a marihuana grow op, simply by accident, or by recognizing the 'skunk-like' odor that marihuana plants produce.
Anyone with any information concerning an outdoor marihuana grow operation can call N.B. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or visit www.crimenb.ca. If your information leads to an arrest, you could qualify for a cash award of up to $2,000.
