1200 dollar fine issued for speeding in a construction zone, Rothesay, N.B.

2012/4/13

For a second day in a row, New Brunswick RCMP Traffic Services in conjunction with the Rothesay Regional Police Force and New Brunswick Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers conducted a traffic operation on Highway 1 near Rothesay.

On April 12, 2012, 67 speeding tickets were issued as well as 15 tickets for failing to wear a seatbelt during the 5 hour traffic operation. Part of this operation was conducted in a construction zone and one driver was fined $1200 for going 150 km/hr in a construction zone which was 80 km/hr above the posted speed limit.

''Traffic enforcement officers are striving to help reduce the number of serious and fatal injuries on our highways in New Brunswick. Unfortunately, failing to wear a seatbelt and impaired driving remain the two leading causes of serious injury and death on our roads which is why enforcement is so important.'' explains Staff Sergeant Stéphane Caron of the New Brunswick RCMP Traffic Services.

New Brunswick RCMP Traffic Services continue to concentrate their efforts on impaired driving, seatbelt use and aggressive driving in order to assist New Brunswick in reaching it's goal of becoming the safest province in Canada.
