Mother and son rescued after becoming stranded in woods, Prince of Wales, N.B.

2012/1/9

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012, St. George RCMP were called to help find a 30-year-old woman from Ste-Marie-St-Raphaël and her 6-year-old son who were lost in the woods in Prince of Wales. The woman had a cell phone and was able to describe her location to police, which gave searchers a clear idea of where they were. Many groups were mobilized to assist in the search, including Point Lepreau Wardens, the Musquash Fire Department, and community volunteers familiar with the trail system.

The pair was located two hours later on the Five Fathom Hole Trail in Prince of Wales. They had been outside for several hours and were cold and exhausted. Once they were near the shore line, the Musquash Fire Department was able to get access to a boat, which picked them up and brought them to safety. The two were transported to the Saint John Regional Hospital and later released.

St. George RCMP would like to thank everyone who assisted in this search.
