General Information:

The Musical Ride has a number of planners that work year-round to plan the upcoming performances of the world famous show. Musical Ride pre-tour planning is conducted one year prior to the actual tour. The Musical Ride Tour planners will be happy to answer telephone enquiries; however, requests for the Musical Ride must be made in writing and submitted to the tour planning office at least one year prior to the actual tour.

In order to ensure that Canadians are given an opportunity to see the Musical Ride, the Ride travels to every province on a four-year rotational basis. For example, in 2008, Ontario and Manitoba are welcoming performances in various communities. In 2009, the Musical Ride returns to locations in Northern Ontario and British Columbia and finally, in 2010 Canadians in Quebec and Alberta will be welcoming the horses and riders. In addition to these Canadian provinces, the Musical Ride supplements each tour with major events in other provinces (subject to logistical feasibility) and with a tour in the United States of America. The Musical Ride is also open to performing abroad and has performed at venues in China, England and Australia, to name a few.

The Musical Ride visits approximately 40 venues annually during a 100-day tour. The host is responsible for paying all stabling and feed costs and must secure a suitable performance site as well as organize the related logistics. The host can obtain local sponsorship to assist in covering the costs of hosting the Musical Ride, subject to certain conditions. A pre-tour site inspection and meeting will be conducted at the cost of the RCMP.

The Musical Ride tours with:

• 46 personnel, which includes 41 members of the RCMP,
• 4 contracted truck drivers
• 1 bus driver
• farrier
• sound technician

The RCMP pays the salary costs of all Musical Ride personnel.

The Musical Ride does not:

• sell merchandise
• sell tickets to performances

There are two-types of Canadian venues:

• Community-based performances:
  The Musical Ride is the main event and additional entertainment is supplied locally to supplement the RCMP’s performance. The host of the Musical Ride must be a non-profit or charitable organization. Tickets can be sold for the performance to recover costs and to support a local cause. The Musical Ride performance supports the mandate of the local RCMP and the Government of Canada.
• Cost recovery performances:
  This is when venues are required to pay 100 per cent of the incremental costs of the Musical Ride. The Musical Ride performs at large fairs, exhibitions, horse shows etc. The Musical Ride is either a feature presentation or a supplementary feature at a major show. There are multiple sponsors for the event and enhanced seating capacity. An estimate of all costs will be provided.
