Emerson RCMP in conjunction with the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) and Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) were successful in intercepting five illegal immigrants attempting to cross the border in October of 2010. The discovery was made in two separate incidents with all five individuals found as they were trying to enter the country on foot.
An SUV found abandoned in Selkirk last year after a police pursuit was forfeited to the Province of Manitoba one year later under the recently introduced Criminal Property Forfeiture Act. In October 2009 RCMP obtained a search warrant for the vehicle, which was believed to be used in the trafficking of controlled substances. Police seized one ounce of cocaine, numerous oxycodone pills, ten cell phones and several rounds of .22 and .45 calibre ammunition. Selkirk RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) with the assistance of the RCMP Winnipeg Integrated Proceeds of Crime (IPOC) made application through the Director of Criminal Property and Forfeiture to have the vehicle forfeited under the Criminal Property Forfeiture Act. On October 1, 2010 the GMC Yukon with a value of over $16,000 was ordered forfeited to the Province of Manitoba.
Powerview RCMP and Selkirk RCMP with the assistance of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST) executed two search warrants simultaneously in December as a result of an integrated weapons trafficking investigation. A residence and outbuildings were searched in the RM of Alexander along with a hunting and fishing supply store located on Sagkeeng First Nation. The search resulted in the seizure of a number of non-restricted and restricted firearms including pistols, rifles andshotguns. A Beaconia resident has been arrested and charged for numerous firearms related offences including weapons trafficking, tampering with serial number of a firearm and careless storage of both restricted and non-restricted firearms.
In September of 2010, members of “D” Division Contract and Aboriginal Policing took part in the annual Citizens on Patrol Program (COPP) Conference in Winnipeg, MB. “D” Division enjoys great support from 60 COPP groups with 1,600 members supporting safe communities
across Manitoba. Over the course of 2010, COPP members patrolled for over 20,000 hours. The contribution this makes to community safety is immeasurable, and the RCMP expressed gratitude for this commitment to conference participants.
