Manitoba West District consists of 13 Detachments. The District offers a variety of policing, ranging from large municipal policing as in Portage La Prairie and Dauphin, to Aboriginal/Metis and small rural community policing.
The District encompasses two major Parks - Riding Mountain National Park, and Duck Mountain Provincial Park and two major forests, the Turtle Mountains and the Porcupine Mountains. There are also two major ski areas within the WSA, the Assessippi Ski Resort near Russell and the Agassiz Ski Resort, near McCreary. These areas, and other resort areas, with fluctuating tourist populations pose unique policing challenges.
Manitoba West District begins at Overflowing River to the north, south to the western half of Lake Manitoba, further down toward the US border. On the west, the Manitoba West District borders with Saskatchewan. We encompass parkland, forest, waterways, and prairie mountains, within this region. Although a large portion of the Service Area is agricultural in nature, there are also some large industries, such as Louisiana-Pacific at Swan River and Simplot at Portage.
