Manitoba North District

Manitoba North District has 22 detachments, one community office and 10 patrol cabins in Northern Manitoba. This district covers two thirds of the landmass of the Province of Manitoba. It includes the area from the northern portion of Lake Winnipeg, north to Hudson's Bay and the Northwest Territories border. It also encompasses the area between the Saskatchewan and Ontario provincial borders.

Because of the vast area and strong variations in climate (+30 degrees in the summer and -50 degrees in the winter), transportation is a key component of policing. Modes of transportation vary from the conventional light trucks and cars to planes, helicopter, various water transport, ATVs, snowmobiles, train, and highrail vehicles. As a result of isolation, members must be familiar with most types of ground transportation.
