“D” Division Operational Communications Center (O.C.C.)
The “D” Division Operational Communications Center (O.C.C.) Is located at the “D” Division Headquarters building in Winnipeg. It has been serving rural Manitoba since 1999. The O.C.C. operates 24/7 365, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Operators are trained as both call takers and dispatchers, each working on one of four teams, led by a team supervisor.

Emergency phone lines - Call Taker
The operators of the “D” Division O.C.C. are highly trained professionals who receive requests for assistance from all over rural Manitoba, from the Canada / U.S.A. border to Churchill. The calls for service vary in nature from questions about the law and complaints of minor thefts to serious reports of domestic assaults, home invasions, stabbings, shootings, and motor vehicle collisions.

Radio - Dispatcher
“D” Division O.C.C. operators respond to the radio and telephone requests from R.C.M.P. members as well as members of other police agencies. Operators dispatch calls for service to the detachments and police units on the road. They are required to monitor the status of patrol cars, contact other resources (e.g. ambulance, fire, tow truck), and conduct computer queries to assist the police officers. Operators must also be able to maintain composure in high stress situations (e.g. high speed chase or a member in distress).

This job allows me to connect the public who need police with members who can provide that front line assistance. It’s a very rewarding career that allows me to grow and become a better person.
