RCMP investigates fatal collision in Lochaber

Antigonish County District RMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Lochaber.

Yesterday, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Antigonish County District RMP, fire, and EHS, responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 7, near the 400 block. RCMP officers learned that a black Toyota Rav4 was travelling north and a white GMC Terrain was travelling south when they collided head on.

The passenger of the GMC, a 70-year-old Bickerton West woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 74-year-old Bickerton West man, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by LifeFlight.

The five occupants of the Toyota, a 31-year old man, a 25-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and two children, all from Antigonish, suffered serious injuries. They were transported to hospital by EHS.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Hwy. 7 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
