Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to aggravated assault

On May 7, 2024, at approximately 8:10 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to an assault in progress at a residence on Burns Bay, in Portage la Prairie.

While officers were en route it was reported that the suspect was assaulting an elderly male.

Once at the scene, RCMP located the suspect jumping on the roof of a vehicle. He was arrested and taken into custody.

The victim, a 76-year-old male, was seriously injured and taken to a local hospital and then transferred to Winnipeg. He remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation has determined that prior to the assault, the suspect, who was known to the victim, was hired to do some renovations at the victim's home.

The suspect also damaged property at the residence.

Michael Taylor, 35, has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Mischief x2.

He was remanded into custody.
