Police charge a man following robberies

West Hants District RCMP Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU) has charged a man following robberies at gas stations in Upper Tantallon and Garlands Crossing.

On April 10, at approximately 11:55 p.m., West Hants District RCMP received a report of a robbery at a gas station on Hwy. 1 in Garlands Crossing. RCMP officers learned that a man entered the business stated that it was a robbery, demanded money and cigarettes, then fled on foot.

On April 13, at approximately 8:50 p.m., RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment responded to a report of a robbery at a gas station on French Village Station Rd in Upper Tantallon. RCMP officers learned that a man entered the business threw a bag on the counter and demanded it be filled with cash and cigarettes. The man then fled in a Toyota Yaris waiting nearby with $1,200 cash and cigarettes.

With the information and evidence gathered, investigators identified a man believed to be involved in the incidents.

On April 24, West Hants RCMP SCEU observed a vehicle driven by the suspect and requested the assistance from the Kentville Police Service. Officers attempted a traffic stop near Middle Dyke Rd., in North Kentville, but the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled from police.

On April 30, 2024, West Hants RCMP SCEU, with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team, the General Investigation Section (GIS) of the HRP/RCMP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, Kings District SCEU, West Hants District RCMP GIS and West Hants District RCMP, executed a search warrant at a home on Riverview Rd. in Hantsport.

At the residence officers safely arrested a 43-year-old Hantsport man and a 34-year-old Halifax woman. A search followed during which officers located and seized a rifle, a cell phone and a cannister of sensory irritant.

Eric Arnold Hubley, 43, has been charged with:

  • Robbery (two counts)
  • Disguise with Intent to Commit an Offence (two counts)
  • Theft (three counts)
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • Operation While Prohibited

Hubley was held in custody and appeared in Kentville Provincial Court where he was remanded. He will return in court on May 6, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.

The 34-year-old woman was held in custody for an outstanding warrant of arrest. She was later released on conditions by the court.
