News release

April 23, 2024, Summerside – East Prince RCMP received a report of stolen tools in Miscouche. Thanks to air tags a search warrant was executed leading to arrests, the recovery of the tools and a seizure of drugs.

East Prince received a report of stolen tools from a construction site in Miscouche on April 16, 2024. Some of the approximately $2000 worth of tools were marked with air tags, an electronic tracker, this guided police to the exact location of the stolen property. A search warrant was executed in Summerside yesterday where the tools were recovered along with a quantity of crystal methamphetamine. Police arrested a 50-year-old Summerside man, this investigation is ongoing.

This investigation was completed by the Prince District Joint Forces Operations with the assistance of Summerside Police Services, East Prince RCMP and RCMP Provincial General Investigation Section.

"Air tags are just one more way people can protect their property from theft. We would also encourage marking tools, making sure tools are securely stored, security cameras, good lighting and removing all valuables from higher risk areas are all helpful to prevent theft." says Corporal Gavin Moore, Media Relations Officer with the PEI RCMP.

If you have information about drugs or stolen property in your community reach out to your local police or call PEI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
