On September 6, 2023, the RCMP Major Crime Unit, Federal Arctic Unit, Forensic Identification Section and the Containment Team attended a home on Tasilik Street with a warrant to search the property authorized under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Inside the house, two individuals were arrested. Officers located and seized a quantity of drugs, cash, electronic devices and other drug paraphernalia.
Allen Broughton (65) and Lena Nuyalia (39) have been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine), Possession of Property obtained by Crime, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
Broughton and Nuyalia are set to appear at court in Iqaluit on September 11, 2023.
