Over the weekend leading up to Christmas and through Boxing Day, PEI RCMP arrested six drivers with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The arrests happened in locations across the Island. In at least two of the cases, drivers provided blood alcohol readings above 200 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol.

"We know the holidays are a time to celebrate and be with family and friends," says Superintendent Kevin Lewis, Acting Commanding Officer for the RCMP in PEI. "We want people to make the right choices when it comes to driving, and driving impaired is always a bad idea," adds Lewis.

PEI RCMP remind everyone to plan ahead if you are going to be consuming alcohol or cannabis – have a designated driver, call a friend, call a cab, or stay where you are until you are able to drive safely.

Superintendent Lewis adds, "New Year's Eve is up next and Islanders should take note that PEI RCMP will be just as active between now and then, doing our part to keep our roads safe. Think of your family and friends, and all those using our roads; please do your part and never drive impaired."
