The Fort Providence RCMP have responded to a number of complaints in the community that have turned out to be false. Between July 19th and October 11th, 2023, the Fort providence Detachment has received 9 false complaints that have related to false allegations of different incidents including mischief and drug related overdoses. In each instance, the Fort Providence RCMP attended the location of the false complaints and determined that the reported incidents did not occur.
RCMP have identified a number of youths that are responsible for the calls and are working with the school and their families to prepare a presentation that highlights the negative impact of making false complaints to the police. It is hoped that this awareness will prevent similar instances in the future.
