Starting Canada Day, July 1, the RCMP Academy is pleased to announce that Sunset Ceremonies are back for summer 2022.

Staff and cadets of the RCMP Academy have been preparing and are looking forward to celebrating Canada Day with the community and welcoming guests back to Depot. This year will be the first time the Sunset Ceremonies have been held in person since 2019.

Ceremonies include a foot-drill display performed by cadets wearing scarlet tunics, historic rifle and cannon firings and the ceremonial lowering of the Canadian flag at sunset. There are also special guests lined up to highlight different policing units and celebrate culture in our community. Depot's mascot Safety Bear will also be in attendance!

This summer, the Sunset Ceremonies take place on July 1, 12, 19, 26, and August 2 and 9 at the RCMP Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan. All Sunset Ceremonies are free of charge.

Access to Depot is available via the RCMP Heritage Centre entrance at 5907 Dewdney Avenue. Gates will open at 6:00 PM. Ceremonies start promptly at 6:45 PM on the Parade Square and last approximately one hour.

To enjoy the full experience there are few things guests need to know:

  • The RCMP Academy is an active training site and a secure facility. Access is controlled. Personal items may be searched on entry.

  • This event includes live cannon and rifle fire. We recommend guests bring hearing protection, especially for young children.

  • Please do not bring your pets. Service dogs are welcome.

  • Please bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Seating is not provided.

"The Sunset Ceremonies have been a tradition here at Depot since 1962. One that honours our past with a look to the future. They are an all around great way to come together and experience summer in Saskatchewan," says Sergeant Major Michael McGinley, Sergeant Major of Depot Division.
