Stunting driver charged: 62 km/hr over the speed limit

On February 22 at 9:05 p.m., a member of the RCMP's Cape Breton Traffic Services in North Sydney was monitoring traffic on Hwy. 105 near Mapleview Dr. They observed a Kia Forte travelling at a high rate of speed and activated the RADAR. The vehicle's speed was measured at 132 km/hr in a posted 70 km/hr area, 62 km/hr over the posted speed limit.

The RCMP officer conducted a vehicle stop, and the 17-year-old male driver was charged with Stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act. The vehicle was seized and impounded. The fine for stunting in Nova Scotia is $2,422.50. The driver was also charged for illegally transporting cannabis under the Cannabis Control Act. The RCMP is also investigating the youth for possession of a prohibited weapon, resulting from items found in the vehicle when police searched it.T

The RCMP want to remind the public that speed is one of the major causes of serious injury and fatal collisions on our roads. Road Safety is a priority for the RCMP, and drivers are reminded to make it their priority as well.
