Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit

The Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit has charged a man from Onion Lake with child pornography offences in relation to an investigation that began in June 2019, into the online accessing of child pornography through file sharing networks.

On January 15, 2020, members of the ICE Unit and the Onion Lake RCMP Detachment executed a search warrant at a residence in Onion Lake that was identified as the location where the offences were occurring. Child pornography was located at the residence and a computer, smart phones, and digital storage devices seized for further forensic analysis.

James Gaberiel Buffalo, age 33, of Onion Lake, was arrested at the location and has been charged with:

  • Possession of Child Pornography, contrary to Sec. 163.1 (4) of the Criminal Code; and
  • Accessing Child Pornography, contrary to Sec. 163.1 (4.1) of the Criminal Code.

James Gaberiel Buffalo has been released from custody on numerous conditions and will next be appearing in Onion Lake Court on February 19, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.

The Saskatchewan ICE Unit is comprised of investigators from the RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mandate is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and/or exploitation of children on the Internet.
