RCMP Major Crimes Unit looking for assistance in homicide investigation – Update #2 – Charges

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit's investigation into the homicide of Faisal Fadul Aden (24) of Edmonton, whose body was discovered on Dec. 4, 2019, resulted in the arrest of two suspects on March 6, 2020.

Winston Derksen and Deidre Lafferty are jointly charged with first degree murder.

Following judicial hearings, both Derksen and Lafferty were remanded into custody and are being returned to Alberta to attend court at a future date.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit would like to thank the public for their assistance in identifying these suspects.

As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be provided.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit are no longer seeking public assistance in identifying the two people who may be persons of interest in a homicide investigation.

Thanks to public tips and assistance, the subjects have been identified. The Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate.

RCMP Major Crimes Unit looking for assistance in homicide investigation

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating a homicide following the report of found human remains on Dec. 4, 2019.

At approximately 4 p.m., High Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint from a citizen who located a deceased male off Highway 88 near Red Earth Creek. The Major Crimes Unit was deployed to take carriage of the investigation.

An autopsy was conducted on Dec. 6 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton and the manner of death was determined to be a homicide.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has obtained surveillance photos of a male and female and are looking for public assistance in identifying these subjects. They are believed to be persons of interest who may have information related to this investigation. The photos are from a gas station in High Level, taken on Dec. 1, 2019.
