RCMP 2019 Holiday Checkstop Stats – Week Four and Final Results

Week four of the RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program, from December 23, 2019 to January 1, 2020, has resulted in:

  • Over 2190 vehicles checked across Manitoba during 80 checkstops
  • 20 people charged with a Criminal Code Impaired Driving offence (16 alcohol, 4 refusal)
  • The highest blood/alcohol reading reported was 0.220
  • 7 alcohol or drug-related tiered administrative roadside suspensions

Last year during week four, RCMP members conducted 47 checkstops, checked approximately 1400 vehicles, and charged 29 people with Criminal Code Impaired Driving offences.

TOTAL PROGRAM RESULTS

During the month-long RCMP Holiday Checkstop Program, 11,477 vehicles were checked during 386 checkstops, and RCMP:

  • Charged 80 people with Impaired Driving (67 alcohol, 2 drug, 11 refusal )
  • Issued 24 alcohol-related tiered suspensions
  • Issued 3 drug-related tiered suspensions
  • Issued 17 immediate roadside prohibitions (6 warns, 9 fails, 2 refuals)

Unfortunately, 11 people lost their lives in 9 traffic-related collisions during this period.

Last year during the 2018/2019 program, RCMP checked 11,714 vehicles during 262 checkstops. RCMP charged 105 people with a Criminal Code Impaired Driving offence and issued an additional 32 alcohol and drug-related tiered suspensions. There were five traffic-related fatalities during last year's Checkstop program.
