Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Cornwall

A 28 year-old Cornwall woman suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle along Main Street in Cornwall early Tuesday morning during the rush hour commute.

Queens District RCMP responded to a 911 at around 6:50 AM reporting that a woman had been struck by a passing vehicle. The driver of the vehicle left the scene but bystanders were able to obtain a license plate and pass the information along to police.

Police intercepted the suspect vehicle, a Dodge Ram, in North River while responding to the call. A 35 year-old Cornwall man was charged for failing to stop and render assistance and failing to leaving his name and insurance information at the scene of a collision. The man was also charged with driving while his license was suspended and his vehicle was impounded.

The pedestrian was treated at the scene and released.

Police remind the public to were to be cautious when walking along roadways and encourage pedestrians to wear light coloured clothing or something reflective to increase your visibility especially during winter months when daylight is limited.
