On Feb. 11, 2020, at approximately 5 p.m., two Blairmore RCMP members responding to a call for service attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Home Hardware store in Blairmore.
A confrontation occurred, which resulted in the discharge of service pistols. The vehicle travelled a short distance and then entered a ditch.
The male driver was located, and he was later pronounced deceased. The two RCMP members were not injured.
The Director of Law Enforcement has been notified and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer involved shooting and the actions of police. The RCMP will continue to investigate the events leading up to the confrontation with police.
