Fifty-year-old Daren Louis Marinelli of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, was arrested by RCMP at approximately 4:00 a.m. on January 1, 2020. Police received a call earlier in the morning indicating a man was firing shots into the air and at an occupied vehicle outside a home in Renews.
RCMP police officers responded and arrested Marinelli as he returned to the same residence in a pickup truck. A loaded rifle was seized from the front seat of the vehicle.
Marinelli was taken into custody and charged with careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and intentional discharge of a firearm while being reckless. A bail hearing will take place today.
The investigation continues; additional charges are possible.
