Jasper RCMP respond to fatal collision on Highway 16

On Dec. 22, 2019 at approximately 1 p.m., Jasper RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 16 near Jasper.

A van with six occupants was travelling eastbound on Highway 16 when a collision occurred with a car with two occupants.

Preliminary investigation revealed the car lost control, and a collision occurred with the two vehicles. Icy conditions were reported at the time of the collision.

A female youth passenger in the car was pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult driver of the car was transported via STARS to an Edmonton hospital with serious life threatening injuries. The occupants of the van were cleared by medical personnel on scene and released. The occupants of both vehicles were from British Columbia.

Jasper RCMP and an RCMP collision analyst remained on scene for several hours. The highway was later re-opened.

The investigation continues, and no further updates are anticipated. The name of the deceased will not be released.
