Flight from police and unauthorized possession of a firearm are some of the charges facing two residents of Happy Valley-Goose Bay following an incident that occurred on January 8, 2020.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP were on patrol in the community. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a truck which sped off and did not stop for police.
A short time later, the truck was located and officers positioned two patrol vehicles to block the truck and prevent it from fleeing.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, locked the doors and refused to exit the truck. After multiple commands to exit the vehicle, the officer warned that her window would be broken if she did not exit. The woman continued to refuse and was arrested after police broke her window and removed her from the truck.
Officers found a 37-year-old man of Happy Valley-Goose Bay attempting to hide in the truck. He was breaching a number of court orders by being out past his curfew and in possession of weapons.
The woman was released from custody and is scheduled to attend court on February 10, 2020, to face a charge of flight from police.
The man was held in custody and has been remanded until January 15, 2020. He has been charged with three counts of breach of a court order, breach of a firearms prohibition order and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle.
