News release

Following an investigation into a hit and run collision that occurred late Friday night near the town of North River, Bay Roberts RCMP have charged a 55-year-old Makinsons woman for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

The collision, which happened at approximately 11:30 pm., on January 10, 2020, involved two vehicles. When officers arrived on the scene they were informed that one of the drivers fled the scene.

Over the course of the weekend, police received a number of tips from the public and were able to identify the vehicle that fled and the suspected driver and determined that the vehicle was not registered or insured.

In addition to being charged with fleeing the scene of a collision, the driver was charged with operating a vehicle without a valid insurance policy. The registered owner of the vehicle, a 30-year-old Bay Roberts woman, was also ticketed. She has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act for permitting the operation of an uninsured vehicle and failing to notify the registrar in transfer of ownership of her vehicle.

Police seized and impounded the vehicle.

Bay Roberts RCMP thanks the public for assistance provided during the course of this investigation.
