Baie Verte RCMP seizes vehicle containing illegal drugs, counterfeit money and stun gun; two Ontario residents face multiple charges

Baie Verte RCMP locates a quantity of drugs, contraband tobacco and other illegal items following an investigation into a single-vehicle collision on the TCH near South Brook on March 8, 2020.

A 40-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man, both from Ontario, face a number of drug possession and other criminal charges following an investigation into a single-vehicle collision, several kilometers east of South Brook, on the Trans-Canada Highway.

On March 8, 2020, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Baie Verte RCMP responded to a report that a vehicle had gone off the road. Police arrived on the scene, conducted an investigation and found the two occupants of the vehicle in possession of a controlled substance.

Police seized the vehicle and transported the man and woman to the Grand Falls-Windsor detachment. Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP and the General Investigation Section were called to assist in the investigation. A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine, psilocybin, marihuana, opiate prescription pills, unstamped tobacco, counterfeit money and a stun gun were located and seized.

Both individuals face charges of possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of psilocybin, possession of marihuana, and possession of unstamped tobacco. In addition to these charges, the woman is facing a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon and the man is facing a charge of breach of a court order.

The man and woman appeared in court on March 9 in Grand Falls-Windsor and were remanded into custody. They will appear in court again today.
