Alberta RCMP Major Crimes investigate a suspicious death in Peace River – Update

On July 17, 2020, Alberta RCMP Major Crime's investigation into the suspicious death of a 42-year-old male from the Peace Region has resulted in an arrest and charges.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested a 35-year-old male of Peace River, Alta., and he is charged with:

Second Degree Murder Section 235 of the Criminal Code

Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Peace River provincial court on Monday July 20, 2020.

No further information will be released as the matter is before the courts.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes investigate a suspicious death in Peace River

Peace River, Alta. – On July 16, 2020, at 4:40 p.m., Peace Regional RCMP and EMS responded to a report of an unconscious male outside of an apartment building in the area of 101 Street and 101 Avenue in Peace River. RCMP and EMS provided care to an injured male who succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes has taken over carriage of this investigation and remain on scene with the assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Services. An autopsy of the 42-year-old male from the Peace Region, is scheduled for July 21, 2020, at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

It is not believed that the public is at risk as a result of this incident.
