Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision

On Sept. 8, 2019 at approximately 2:30 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Gravelstone Road in Fort McMurray.

A car carrying three occupants veered off the road and struck a residence. The collision also caused destruction to a gas line in the area, which led to several residences being evacuated while repairs were completed.

A 17-year-old male passenger from Athabasca was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 22-year-old male driver of the vehicle suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital in Edmonton. The third occupant, a 21-year-old male, suffered serious injuries and was transported to hospital via EMS.

Wood Buffalo RCMP along with a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate. All possible contributing factors related to this collision are being considered as it remains under investigation.
